(C) Radiograph microanalysis of a foreign body in the liver: CK (carbon peak), OK (oxygen), Na (sodium), Al (aluminium), Si (silicium), Cl (chlorine), Ca (calcium), and K (potassium). The peak of C was caused by the carbon-stub for scanning electron microscopy. It was the same as the background of the kidney and liver samples that had been placed on aluminium-stubs. The debris found in kidney and liver sometimes showed a peak of sulpher, possibly caused by sulphmucin coating of foreign particles in biological tissues. (D) Radiograph mircoanalysis of the surface of the cross-sectioned prosthesis. The presence and amount of Na, K, or Ba were varying in the different layers of the prosthesis.
