1 You need: Nov.1, 2017 Clean paper (2) / Pencil Warm Up for exchange
How did you do on your Genetics Test? Name two study techniques that you did NOT try – but could try next time. I CAN: describe motion. Nov.1, 2017

2 Today… In your textbook, turn to page 6. As you look at the picture of the airplanes, answer the questions on the page – with your elbow partner. Look to page 7. On paper, write out the statements and tell if you agree or disagree –AND WHY! It’s okay to talk with your elbow partner.

3 Turn to page 8 Write out the three essential questions at the top of the page. You do NOT need to answer them…yet. Define the four vocabulary terms…using the chapter, not the glossary.

4 Turn to page 8 Write out the three essential questions at the top of the page. You do NOT need to answer them…yet. Define the four vocabulary terms…using the chapter, not the glossary.

5 MOTION What is motion? How can you describe the motion of different objects? What does all motion have in common? As each object is shown, think about how you would describe its motion. Try to be thinking of a definition for motion that would fit all the different items!

6 How is it moving? D A B C E F G H I

7 So…what is motion? Motion is a change in position over time!!

8 So…what is motion? Distance If you change your position,
then you have traveled some distance.

9 So…what is motion? Distance
How fast you travel that distance is your speed! (Speed is the RATE at which you change position).

10 Motion – Occurs when an object changes _____________ relative to a _____________ ____________.
position point reference

11 -Distance: how ________ an object has traveled.
-Displacement: ______________ and _____________ of an object’s change in position from the starting point. far distance direction

12 Speed – the _________________ an object travels per unit of _________________. Also known as the ____________ of change in position. distance time rate

13 Distance Length Amount of space between two given points
Does unit matter?

14 How can we describe motion?
Motion can be described by: DISTANCE (how far did it travel?) TIME (how long did it travel?) SPEED (how fast did it travel?) DIRECTION (which way did it go?) ACCELERATION (does the motion change?)

15 Metric System (remember?)
Why metric? US vs. World; accuracy; ease Based on 10s…not 12 or 3 or whatever Kilo, Hecto, Deka deci, centi, milli PRE-fixes

16 Draw out the metric stair-step…
L 1. Kilo 2. Hecto 3. Deka 4. UNIT 5. deci Meters = length or distance Liters = volume Grams = mass or weight 6. centi 7. milli

17 HW: Be sure to finish the classwork – 6 statements and whether or not you agree/disagree with support. Write out the three essential questions and define the four key terms. Finish the front of the Metric Mania Conversions page. You are simply practicing conversion using the ladder method.
