Turn to a partner and share ideas Remind students that scholarship money is meant to pay for educational expenses Students will learn importance of creating professional accounts for college-related tasks

4 Scenario 2: Creating College-Related Accounts
Jose is in 10th grade, and needs to create a CollegeBoard account to take the SAT. When creating his account, Jose uses one of four different addresses he has created over the past year. Jose does not write down his user name and password. When answering the security question, Jose quickly enters random answers to skip through the process. What could Jose have done differently? Why? Use storytelling to make scenarios amusing and honest Examples: 5 addresses with different usernames and passwords for all of them Frog story for security questions

Let students know they will use the same login information for setting up all future college-related accounts (College Board is just the first one)

7 Step 1: CollegeBoard Homepage
All students will go to this website Tell students collegeboard.org is the ONLY website used to register for the SAT Announce that ALL students at GPA are required to take the SAT and ACT (ACT info to come later) Inform them of benefits to creating a College Board account (free SAT prep, daily questions, access scores online, etc.) All students will then click on “SAT” in top left corner to proceed with creating account

8 Step 2: Sign Up All students will click on “Sign Up” in bottom left corner to start the process of creating their accounts

9 Step 3: Personal Information
WAIT! Follow instructions for , USER NAME, and PASSWORD! Tell students to use GOMPERS STUDENT address which has already been created for them (NOTE: have all students’ predetermined accounts ON HAND, in alphabetical order, in case students forget their own account name or password) Tell students to select “The Official SAT Question of the Day” after entering address to receive daily practice questions (a benefit which was mentioned previously!)

10 Account Information for GPA Students
User Name Password First TWO letters of first name Last name Graduation year (2014) All lowercase, no spaces EXAMPLE: Jose Ramirez’s user name would look like this: joramirez2014 School name (Gompers) Last FOUR digits of student ID number No spaces EXAMPLE: Gompers1234 Coach students through the process of creating their usernames and passwords according to this predetermined pattern Tell students why this pattern has been selected and how it will benefit them (pre-approved pattern for use with ALL college-related accounts, easy pattern to remember for future reference, school counselors will know the pattern and also have access to all students’ college-related account information)

11 DON’T FORGET!!! WRITE DOWN your user name and password in your PLANNER! WRITE DOWN your user name and password on the INDEX CARD provided. Your school counselors need this information to help you in the future! You will use this information for the next 3 years!!! Tell students why writing down passwords is beneficial (future reference) Tell students why school counselors will need access to this information (future reference, student support, emergency access) Tell students all account information will be kept in a confidential location, and only school counselors will have access to usernames and passwords

12 Stop! Practice Time! Sign out of CollegeBoard.org
Go back to CollegeBoard homepage Click on “SAT” and sign into your new account! Find SAT Question of the Day Ensure all students successfully accomplish the process of logging into their accounts with their new usernames and passwords (assess skills here!)

13 Uh oh… forgot your account info?
What resources can YOU access from the website? Still stuck? Then... ASK A COUNSELOR! Tell students College Board will user name and password to them if they forget. This is why they need to regularly access their accounts! If all else fails, this is why they wrote down their information on the index card!
