3. Freewrite Have you decided what literacy you are going to write about?
If yes: what is it, and why?
If no: what possibilities are you considering?
What progress have you made on your assignment so far? How do you feel about what you’ve done?

4. Workshop You have a piece of paper. Write your name at the top.
Say hi to your partner, and exchange papers.
While your partner speaks, you will give them your undivided attention and take notes, to the best of your ability, on what they are saying. These notes can be bullets, abbreviations, sketches, doodles, diagrams, etc.
We will take 3 minutes for each set of questions.
Within that 3 minutes, each partner will have an uninterrupted 1 ½ minutes to talk through their thoughts/answers. I will “Switch!” to let you know that it’s time for the other person to speak if they haven’t started to already.

5. Round 1 Do you remember learning how to read?
How did/do you respond, or relate, to reading growing up?
Was it easy? Hard?
Do you have any specific memories of how reading figured into your experiences growing up?

6. Round 2 Do you speak more than one language?
Have you taken a class in another language?
What was/has that experience been like?
How has it influenced your understanding of, or relationship to, your native language?

7. Round 3
What is an unconventional genre, medium, mode, etc., that you feel like you have literacy in?
E.g. dance, design/art, video games, computer programming, music composition, sports, crafts, cooking/baking, etc.
How has language played into that other literacy? How does it not?

8. Round 4
When was a time that you felt like you didn’t have literacy in something that you wish you had?
What was that experience like?
Was there a power dynamic or power difference involved?

9. Round 5 Have you chosen your literacy to write about? If yes: If no:
Describe it.
What is it?
Why is it important to you.
If no:
What possibilities are you considering?
How do you feel about them?

10. Round 6
Pick a literacy that you have – either the one that you are writing about, or one that you are considering.
What memories do you have of it?
What are specific examples, stories, that are meaningful to you?
What does this literacy mean to you?

11. Round 7 What progress have you made so far? What are you happy with?
Frustrated with?
What are questions that you have, or decisions that you are navigating?

12. Round 8 (final)
What are specific goals that you have to make progress on your assignment between now and Monday, when we peer review?
What are specific, actionable steps, you can take to get there?

13. Freewrite What was that experience like for you?
What did you learn about yourself? About the assignment?
What specific, actionable, steps do you plant o take to make progress on your assignment?
What needs to be done between now and Monday to have a full draft for peer review?

14. Wrap-up
