Who are you? Brainstorm some compelling memories that have helped make you who you are. They do not have to be big moments—the little ones define you just as much, if not more. For example, for me, I might include the following: I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the Steelers have always been a part of my life. I used to sit on my parent’s water bed, smelling my mother’s perfume as she gets ready for work. When I went to college, I was both thrilled and terrified of being completely in charge of my life. I cried when my parents drove away after dropping me off in North Carolina in a house with people I had only briefly met. I was to start teaching the following week for the very first time.

After the brainstorm After your brainstorm, you will take a piece of paper and sketch out your thumbprint lightly with a pencil. Finally, you will arrange your memories along the lines of your thumbprint.
