Captions and signs Making notices for their belongings and their room. e.g. This is my room. Making labels using paper/post it notes. e.g. -Lego -pens in their rooms

Helping to write the shopping list
Writing cards e.g. birthday cards, thank you cards. Magnetic letters on the fridge, bathroom wall etc…

Rhyming Strings: - cat - mat - sat - bat Use photos from a trip and write captions. e.g. I went to the park and I … Write their own story books. Use old wall paper to make maps with landmarks, writing labels underneath.

•Phonics is just the beginning to becoming a fluent reader… Please continue to read with your child each night and encourage them to: • Talk about the pictures and what the book may be about before reading •Sound out. •Re-read to check it makes sense. •Use pictures for clues. •Ask questions about the book. This becomes more and more important as children become stronger readers in the Reception year. •Most importantly ENJOY READING!
