DOF: 544 billion CPU time: 400 mil core-hr with 524k cores (MIRA, ANL) Generated Data: 137 TBytes (76 snapshots, 1.8 TBytes / snapshot) Largest simulation of wall-bounded turbulent flow ever performed Coherent vortex structure of wall- bounded turbulence. Each tube represents a single vortex core.

Hybrid RANS/LES - PECOS
Hybrid RANS/LES turbulence models are useful in many engineering flows (e.g. cars and planes) A new model addresses shortcoming in previous hybrid models The PECOS hybrid model is applicable to a wide range of complex turbulent flows Evolution of a stalled airfoil after a stall-control actuation pulse. The pulse causes the separated flow to partially reattach resulting in increased lift and reduced drag. The simulation was performed with the new hybrid RANS/LES model developed at PECOS.
