2 Why Are We Here? The Elementary and Secondary School Act, Title I Part A, requires that each Title I school hold an annual meeting for the parents and families whose children receive Title I services: Informing you of the school’s participation in Title I, Part A Explaining the requirements of Title I, Part A Explaining your rights and opportunities as parents and families to be involved in your child’s learning and achievement

4 Purpose of Title I To help children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and to close achievement gaps.

5 What We Do With Title I Funds
Salaries for supplemental teachers, instructional staff, and instructional aides Provide supplemental social workers Professional Development Parent Involvement

7 Focus of Parent Involvement
Establishing relationships with parents/families to increase their involvement Meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children.

8 Why Parent Involvement?
Earn higher grades and test scores, and enroll in higher-level programs Be promoted, pass their classes, and earn credits Attend school regularly Have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school Graduate and go on to post-secondary education

9 Parent Involvement Guidelines
Taylor ISD shall work in collaboration with parents and guardians and shall actively support the schools and parents in enhancing parent involvement. Principals, teachers, and all school staff shall work in collaboration with parents and guardians. Parents/Guardians are asked and encouraged to be involved in their children’s learning. The full parent involvement guidelines are located on the TISD website

Provided to all students Available in English and Spanish Will be evaluated each year Parents are encouraged to provide input

11 Campus Level Parent Involvement Policy in Student Handbook
Parents are encouraged to participate in the educational process Will have a school-parent compact Will provide opportunities for regularly scheduled meetings for parents to attend and participate (PTO Meetings)

12 Information Available for Parents
Programs available on the campus Description of the Curriculum Forms of academic assessments and expected proficiency levels How to monitor a student’s progress Qualifications of the student’s teachers Notification if a school is identified as in need of improvement or persistently dangerous

13 LEA Title I Plan The LEA Title I Plan addresses how the LEA will use Title I, Part A funds within the school district. Typically, in Texas, the elements of the Title I Plan are incorporated into the District Improvement Plan (DIP). Topics include: High-quality student academic assessments Supplemental services to assist struggling students Coordination and integration of federal funds and programs Strategies to implement effective parent and family engagement Title I parents have the right to be involved in the development of this plan

14 Campus Improvement Plan
The school’s Campus Improvement Plan (CIP) includes: A needs assessment and summary of data Goals, objectives, and strategies to address the academic needs of students Professional development needs Coordination of resources and services Identification of Title I, Part A funds and expenditures Strategies from the school’s parental involvement policy Title I parents have the right to be involved in the development of the CIP

15 Parents’ Rights To be involved in the decision making process for their child To be involved in the planning and evaluation of the parent involvement program on the campus To express satisfaction and/or dissatisfaction with the campus plan directly to the campus and/or district
