1 Cellular Respiration -Cellular respiration is process in which cells convert the energy in foods into ATP, which cells can use as energy C6H12O2 + 6 O2 6 H2O + 6 CO2 -this is the reverse equation of photosynthesis -much of cellular respiration occurs in the mitochondria

2 Cellular Respiration -cellular respiration begins outside the mitochondria in a process known as glycolysis -glycolysis is the process of turning glucose into pyruvic acid which becomes pyruvate, which is used by the mitochondria to produce ATP -NADH and tiny amount of ATP is generated by this process in itself

3 Cellular Respiration -much of the ATP that comes from cellular respiration comes from the mitochondria through the Krebs cycle and electron transport chain

4 Cellular Respiration -the pyruvate is transformed into Acetyl
CoA before going through the Krebs cycle -as pyruvate is transformed, it produces NADH -in the Krebs cycle, the Acetyl CoA is broken down into carbon dioxide molecules and ATP, NADH, and FADH2 is produced

5 Cellular Respiration Flowchart
Using the underlined words (glycolysis and Krebs cycle have already been entered) in the notes, fill in the flowchart below to show how glucose is transformed into ATP. GLYCOLYSIS NADH KREBS CYCLE FADH2 NADH NADH
