GENDER FOCAL POINT DoA in the process of establishing the Gender Forum – ratified by Departmental Executive Committee on 13 July 2003 Composition of the Forum is 70% women and 30% men nominated from the departmental programmes The Forum is to report to the Director General and the Employment Equity Forum on regular basis Budgetary issues will be effected after the launch

Management Currently the department has 40% of women in senior positions Top management – DG; 2x DDGs; Chief of Staff Ministry; 1x ADG Department headed by a woman All Senior Managers expected to report at QRMs on the status of staff compliment In the process of revising the HRM recruitment strategy to cater for gender imbalances

Female Farmer competition of the year
Since 1999 the department has been celebrating women’s input in agriculture through this competition Women were given recognition in the three categories: Top Exporter; Top National Markets; Top Informal Markets. This year added the fourth category – Top Household Producer Winners are playing a pivotal role in the economy of this country

Way forward The Gender forum will be launched early next as approved by Dexco – would be a feeder to the Employment Equity Forum with the Transformation Officer in the Office of the Director General as the ex-officio member. Thank you
