2 Outline (10 mins.): Text by text Point by point
Compare the use of symbolism in this story and one of the following (“WAYG, WHYB?,” “OUAT,” “Brill,” “Swimmer”). Two ways to do this: Point by point Symbol (or type of symbolism) 1 “AVOMWEW” and text #2 Symbol (or type of symbolism) 2 Text by text “AVOMWEW” Symbol (or type of symbolism) Text #2 ** Both outlines can be altered for your purposes.

On a notecard or sticky note, tell me which story you’re comparing to “AVOMWEW.” If you were not here last class for the pre-writing, you have a separate prompt. On your notecard/sticky note, write that you were absent last class. You will be paired [by zombies] based on your chosen text.

4 Composition (20 minutes):
PROMPT: Compare the use of symbolism in this story (“AVOMWEW”) and one of the following: “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” “Once upon a Time” “Miss Brill” “The Swimmer” Absent last class? Your alternate prompt is: Explain how Marquez uses symbolism to develop a specific idea in “A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings.”
