1 What happens to a relationship / situation when we make the decision to not talk about it?

2 Barriers to Communication
The worst assumption a sender of a message can make is that the message will be received as intended. So many things can go wrong during the communications process that we should always assume that something will go wrong and take steps to prevent that occurrence.

3 “I” MESSAGES or “I” STATEMENTS
Communicating in a way that takes ownership of and responsibility for your own thoughts and feelings without blaming or putting others down “I” statements enable speakers to be assertive without making accusations, which can often make listeners feel defensive  “I feel _____________when you ___________________” instead of demanding, “Why did or did not do something?”

4 Learn to Listen Listening is not the same as hearing Learn to listen not only to the words being spoken but how they are being spoken and the non-verbal messages sent with them. Use the techniques of Active Listening to confirm what the other person has said and avoid any confusion.
