Information collected using the senses Information collected during an experiment Data A summary of many experimental results and observations Theory An explanation based on data from experiments Law A complete scientific explanation THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD Conclusion based on observations An educated guess (what you think will happen) Inference Hypothesis Variable Problem Model Something in an experiment that can be controlled or changed What a scientist is trying to solve or figure out Experiment Something that is kept the same or a group used for comparison in an experiment Control A representation of an object or system A scientific test

2 INSTRUCTIONS Step 1: Choose a topic or content objective that you would like to review using a four sided puzzle. Step 2: Choose 24 vocabulary terms, topics, or phrases associated with the content you wish to review. 12 terms will be used in the interior of the puzzle with matching definitions, descriptions or accompanying pictures and 12 will be used on the exterior edges of the puzzle as distracters. Step 3: Write brief, student friendly definitions or descriptions for the twelve vocabulary terms or topics that you intend to use in the interior of the puzzle. You can also use pictures instead of definitions or descriptions to represent the term or phrase, however, I would limit it to one picture per card due to the limited space on each game card. Step 4: Type the vocabulary terms, topics, or phrases in the interior spaces labeled “WORD” (numbers range from 1-12) and type the matching definition, description, or pictures in the corresponding spaces. Make sure the word and matching definition are are arranged directly across from each other on each side of the line. Step 5: Type terms on the exterior borders of the puzzle in the spaces labeled “WORD” (numbers range from 13-24) Step 6: Type the title of the puzzle in the center square. Step 7: Check yourself! Make sure your puzzle makes sense and all terms are facing the correct corresponding definition, description, or picture. Differentiation Options: Make it more challenging by: ~ using some words twice. You can use an interior word again on the exterior of the puzzle, this will add complexity. ~ making the center square a “spinner” by using 4 different words and 4 different definitions that all interchangeably match each other. This means that the center square will fit in any orientation that you place it. Make it less challenging by: ~ omitting the exterior words or phrases. This removes options from the puzzle making it less complex and a good way to modify for SPED students. You can also add pictures to the center of the cards to make it prettier  See my shop for free puzzles with teacher and student instructions.
