Objectives By the end of the session you will….
Know the names of at least 5 group members Know what at least 3 people WANT to teach Know the structure of the programme for Semester 1 Evaluate the effectiveness of icebreakers Identify what you can give and hope to get from the course, as well as any concerns. Establish some group ground rules

Ice breaker: People Bingo
The aim of this is to get you to speak to virtually everyone in the room. Ask each person you ‘meet’ two or three questions based on the contents of the boxes below. If they are a match ask them to write their first name in the box. You must collect a different person’s name in each box. Be careful not to claim details in inappropriate boxes…you may be called on to prove it!

Mobile numbers are crucial for letting you know of changes to the course and later on for observations s- make sure we can read them! Comments: Confidential

Icebreaker: Significant figure
Write down a number that is significant to you. Show the group. The group must now try to guess what this number signifies to you.

Evaluation of Icebreakers
How effective were the icebreakers? What were they trying to achieve and did they achieve it? Can you suggest to the group alternative icebreakers? Why are they effective?

Group Ground Rules - Snowball
Discuss as a small group, decide on the three most important ground rules for the whole group. List these… Read the rules of the other groups add any that you think they are missing. N.B. Snowball the results

Gives, Gets and Concerns
Around each side of the room there are 3 sheets of paper labelled ‘Gives’, ‘Gets’ and Concerns. Use the post-its to write down: What you think you can ‘give’ to the group in terms of skills, knowledge or experience What you would like to ‘get’ from the course Any ‘concerns’ you have Concerns Gives Gets
