SOURCE The starting point of a river.

RIVER A stream of water that flows across the land and empties into another body of water.

TRIBUTARY A smaller river that flows into a larger river.

MOUTH The place where a river empties into a larger body of water.

DELTA Land made of soil left behind as a river drains into a larger body of water.

LAKE A body of water completely surrounded by land.

BAY Part of an ocean or lake that extends deeply into the land.

CANAL A channel built to carry water for irrigation or transportation.

PLAIN A large area of nearly flat land.

PLATEAU A high flat area that rises steeply above the surrounding land.

MOUNTAIN A high landform with steep sides; higher than a hill.

VALLEY An area of low land between hills or mountains.

CANYON A deep, narrow valley with steep sides.

PENINSULA A body of land nearly surrounded by water.

ISLAND A body of land completely surrounded by water.
