2 Main Aims Destroy the treaty of Versailles: (1) Remove “war guilt” clause (2) Recover land taken from Germany (3) Build up German army and airforce

3 Main Aims Lebensraum: Germany should expand to the east to create “Living Space” for Germans Anschluss: Hitler wanted a union with Austria Unite all German speaking peoples in one Reich

4 Steps to World War 2 (1) Introduced conscription to raise the army to 500,000 (2) Hitler formed an air force the “Luftwaffe” (3) Sent his army into the Rhineland

5 (4) In 1936 Hitler and Mussolini signed the Rome-Berlin Axis
(5) “Condor Legion” sent to help General Franco in Spanish Civil War (6) In 1938 Germany completed the “Anschluss” with Austria

6 Hitler invades the Sudetenland
Britain and France follow a policy of “Appeasement” After the “Munich Conference” Neville Chamberlain believed he had secured “Peace in our time”

7 Hitler signed a “Pact of Steel” with Mussolini in 1939
Hitler and Stalin signed the “Nazi-Soviet Pact”. They agreed not to attack each other and They agreed to divide Poland between them

8 Outbreak of World War 2 Hitler invaded Poland on the 1st of September 1939 Blitzkrieg (Lightening War) Britain and France declare war on Germany
