HOW TO DO PROJECT CITIZEN Step 1: SELECT A PROBLEM
FIND A PROBLEM: YOUR Map/Community – (3 problems) Brain Storm Investigate – Thursday (first 30 minutes) –Present YOURS TO YOUR GROUP– Thur. (last 30 min). Select top 2 as a whole group) INVESTIGATE A LOT MORE (by next Thursday) Select THE SURE ONE & A COOL TITLE

What Criteria is Used to Select a Problem?
Is the problem you selected important to you and other people in your community? Does government have some responsibility to deal with this problem? Will there be sufficient information about the problem to develop a good project? Is there a realistic possibility of solving the problem selected? Can you convince others? Why?>

Decide on 3 Alternative SOLUTIONS Research solutions = public policy. Select 3 solutions to the problem Research the 3 Advantages and Disadvantages of each solution.

HOW TO DO PROJECT CITIZEN STEP 3: WHICH SOLUTION WILL YOU USE?
Select ONE PUBLIC POLICY to SOLVE PROMBLEM What is your solution to the problem? Select ONE of your alternatives or combination. Must be a Public Policy Solution: Action by those who hold or affect government positions of authority. Government = city, county, State, National, School Board etc. Why that ONE over the others? Statistics, Articles, Pictures, Graphs, Polls etc.

Definition Public policy is a concept or set of ideas that guides a course of action or a procedure used in dealing with public issues and problems. Laws, rules, regulations, by-laws, school rules, codes, ordinance, policy, etc. News papers

4. Developing an ACTION PLAN Bring to attention of Government Formulation of plan and those that will support it Adoption – When and who must adopt YOUR PART – How can you help get action? Implementation (Cost and benefits) Evaluation – Who will oversee it and evaluate that it is effective.

Your team list will be agreed upon by your group and one person will write your TEAMS important items. Number = most important. 15 = least important.

ESSAYS + other Materials required: Problem: 2+ page essay. Alternative Solutions (3): 1+ page essay each. Your chosen Solution: 1+ page essay. Action Plan: 2+ page essay. REFLECTION ESSAY (each person) = 20 points. To Complete State Requirement! INDIVIDUALLY = NEED 70% or above. TOTAL OF 620 Points. WEBSITE – RUBRICS and MORE!
