Class News Mrs. Guyton’s Room December 19-22 A Note from the Teacher Test Hope that you have a happy holiday and that you and your child gets some rest. I will be sending home an extra practice package home Wednesday. This is completely optional but it will be a great way to review skills during our break. We will have early dismissal Thursday, December the 22nd. Dismissal will be as follow: Daycare:  10:00 a.m. Car riders: 10:10 a.m. Bus: 10:30 a.m We will have no spelling test this week. What we Learning December 20- Pennies from Heaven Deadline December 21- PBIS Big Event December 21- Christmas 1:00 December 22- Half Day Early Dismissal Dec 23- Jan 5- Winter Break January 6- Student Holiday Dates to Remember Math: Review 2 step word problems and graphs. Reading: Main idea and summarizing a text. Writing: Informative/Explanatory- introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points and write a concluding statement and Narrative. Language: Use commas in greetings and closing of letters.

2 Pennies From Heaven Word Work Soccer Registration
We still collecting Pennies from Heaven with the Richland Exchange Club. All founds collected will help purchase much needed Christmas items for family member in the Richland area. Please send any pennies you may have to help out with this fundraiser. The Exchange Club will return on the 20th of December to count all containers and announce the class that collected the largest amount. Word Work There will be no spelling words this week. Please continue to read and practice sight words with your child during the holiday break. Soccer Registration The City of Richland Parks & Recreation will conduct registration for Spring soccer January 3, 2017 through January 13, 2017, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. For additional questions, contact Guy Smith at (601) Attendance Student of the Month Please remember that attendance is important. Students who have no absences, tardies, or check-outs will take part in a celebration at the end of the month. We are also having a contest at our school for attendance, your child could have a chance of winning a $25 gift card. Congratulations to Nicholas Wison Student of the Month for November. Help at Home Your child can identify the main purpose of a nonfiction text, including what the author wants to answer, explain, or describe. Identify the intended audience for the text. Understand information can be obtained from the words of the text as well as text features such as illustrations, captions, headings, etc. VOCABULARY FICTION is a story that is make-believe; includes characters, a setting, a problem, and a solution. NONFICTION is a text that gives true information or facts; includes things such as photographs, charts, or maps. H E L P AT H O M E Have your child identify the reasons for writing and reading different types of text (e.g., journals, newspaper articles, brochures). After reading a nonfiction text, have your child identify the reason the author may have written the text and what his purpose for writing may have been.
