Scatter Plot: A graph that shows the relationship between 2 data sets.
9.1 Scatter Plots Essential Question: How can you construct and interpret a scatter plot? Scatter Plot: A graph that shows the relationship between 2 data sets. The 2 data sets are graphed as ordered pairs on a coordinate plane.

How many calories are in the sandwich that contains 17 grams of fat?
Example 1 The scatter plot shows the amounts of fat (in grams) and the number of calories in 12 restaurant sandwiches. How many calories are in the sandwich that contains 17 grams of fat? b) How many grams of fat are in the sandwich that contains 600 calories?
3
What tends to happen to the number of calories
Example 1 The scatter plot shows the amounts of fat (in grams) and the number of calories in 12 restaurant sandwiches. What tends to happen to the number of calories as the number of grams of fat increases? A sandwich has 650 calories. How many grams of fat would you expect the sandwich to have?

Steps for Creating Scatterplot:
Step 1: Label the x & y - axis & title the graph. Step 2: Determine scale and interval for each axis. (if time is involved it always goes on x-axis) Step 3: Plot a point from each pair of values.
5
Number of farm workers in thousands
Example 2 10,000 8,000 6,000 4,000 2,000 ,995 ,858 ,132 ,012 ,818 ,864 Number of farm workers in thousands Year Number of Farm Workers Year Step 1: Label the axis & title the graph. Step 2: Determine scale and interval for each axis. Place the year on the horizontal axis and the number of farm workers on the vertical axis. Step 3: Plot a point from each pair of values.
6
Make a scatter plot of the data
