2 A Booming Economy The U.S. experienced amazing economic growth during the 1920’s Technology caused industrial growth, and electricity powered American industry. Electricity allowed consumers to buy stoves, vacuums, and refrigerators. Labor-saving devices produced leisure (free) time for American people. Entertainment grew because people now had free time to enjoy themselves. Installment buying allow people to buy products by promising to pay small, regular amounts over a period of time.

4 Social and Cultural Change in the 1920’s-Changes for Women
The 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote. A growing number of women started working, and educational opportunities increased. The symbol of women in the 1920’s was the flapper- a carefree young woman with short “bobbed” hair, heavy makeup, and short skirts.

5 Movies and Radio Mass media- forms of communication, such as newspapers and radio allowed information to reach millions of people. Laborsaving devices and fewer working hours gave Americans more leisure(free) time to enjoy newspapers, magazines, radio and the movies.

6 Sports of the 1920’s Radio added to the popularity of sports such as baseball, football, and boxing. Americans flocked to sporting events and sports stars became heroes.

7 Charles Lindbergh On May 20, 1927 Charles Lindbergh became the 1st person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. Americans went wild and hailed Lindbergh as a hero.
