1 WAAS LPV Charting Requirements
4/11/2019 Government/Industry Aeronautical Charting Forum (ACF) Meeting ~ May 1 - 2, 2002 New Charting Topic WAAS LPV Charting Requirements Hank Cabler, AFS-400

2 4/11/2019

3 Performance Comparison
4/11/2019 Performance Comparison LNAV/VNAV (556 m by 50 m) LPV (40 m by 50 m) GLS (40 m by 12 m)

4 4/11/2019 Proposed Lateral Obstacle Clearance Criteria (comparison to LNAV and LNAV/VNAV)

5 4/11/2019 Proposed Criteria WAAS NSE Does Not Degrade with Distance from Threshold. At 668’ HAT, WAAS and ILS NSE are Equivalent. This chart shows the vertical profile of the primary surface for the proposed criteria, as it compares to ILS criteria and to LNAV/VNAV criteria. In all cases, the secondary surface abuts the primary surface and slopes upwards at 7:1 along the horizontal line perpendicular to the approach path. This means that for every 7 feet farther away from the runway centerline, the required obstacle clearance is 1 foot less. In addition, AFS-420 is investigating the use of the ILS W and X surfaces that would allow further reduction in the required obstacle clearance height on the outer portion of the primary surface. Above 668’ HAT, LPV Uses ILS OCS. Validate Use of ILS Criteria Adjusted for 50 M Vertical Alert Limit

6 LPV Estimated Minima Average: 272 ft Median: 250 ft APV 1.0
4/11/2019 LPV Estimated Minima Average: 272 ft Median: 250 ft % < 258ft: 81% APV 1.0 5073 runway ends at 1534 airports

7 Estimated HAT for Vertically Guided Approaches--Summary
4/11/2019 Estimated HAT for Vertically Guided Approaches--Summary This chart summarizes the estimated minima (HAT) based on the Mitre GPS Approach Minima Estimator (GAME) tool. This tools provides a rough approximation of the achievable minima using proposed obstacle clearance criteria. The tool does not automate procedure development: it is only intended to provide some insight into the achievable minima. Key limitations of the model include: no consideration of the missed approach segment; and limitations of the obstacle and terrain databases. The model has been validated by comparison to published LNAV, LNAV/VNAV, and ILS approaches. 5073 runway ends at 1534 airports
