The numbers of FITC-positive and hematoxylin-positive nuclei were counted by using the public-domain image processing and analysis program (image, × 100 magnification). The average transfection efficiency of the decoy on the cross-section, defined as the ratio of the number of FITC-positive nuclei to the total number of nuclei based on hematoxylin staining, was 77% ± 20%.
