1. Narrative Poetry Challenge- Try to complete at least one task in bold!
Every two weeks you get one piece of homework.
You can choose which task you wish to do off this learning menu, but once you have done one task, you cannot do it again – so pick carefully!
1. To write your own narrative poem using a keyword or image as a stimulus from one of the poems you have studied. E.g. ‘On either side of the river lie‘ Or ‘Beaming with her blood’ or ‘My pelt is silver’
2. Create a visual representation of a key character/theme/image from one of the poems you have studied. E.g. The Jabberwocky/an inn-setting of the Highwayman
3. Research the background of one of the poets from a poem you have studied. Create a fact file on them and how their life/ historical context influenced their poetry. E.g. Alfred Noyes/Lewis Carol
4. Prepare a presentation on a narrative poem not studied in class.
E.g. The Hyena, The Cremation of Sam McGee etc.
5. Write a 1-2 page diary from the perspective of any key character in any of the poems you have studied. E.g. Bess/ The Highwayman, The Traveller, The protagonist in Jabberwocky etc.
6. Write a PEE (Point, evidence, explanation)
paragraph explaining why/ how a poem affects a reader. E.g. Gruesome Language in The Lake– eerie, describes something lurking in the shadows.

E.g. Lines like: ‘But only a host of phantom listeners/
That dwelt in the lone house’ or ‘His rapier hilt a-twinkle, under the jeweled sky’
2. Create a visual representation of a key character/theme or event in one of the poems.
E.g. The Highwayman– Could be represented with a model or detailed description of the inn or a key scene in the poem.
3. Research the background of one of the poets from a poem you have studied. Create a fact file on them and how their life/ historical context influenced their poetry.
This could be a facebook profile/Spider diagram/a list/ etc
4. Prepare a presentation on a narrative poem not studied in class.
Explain why your poem is a narrative poem
Describe themes found in the poem E.g. Good vs Evil, Quest/ Search, Love
Language techniques used
Why this is a good example of narrative poetry.
This could be done as a PowerPoint, on poster board etc.
