2 What are Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA)?
You can apply for Disabled Students’ allowances (DSAs) to cover some of the extra costs you have because of a mental health problem, long term illness or any other disability You can get the allowances on top of your other student finance and you won’t have to repay DSAs The allowances will be tailored to your needs and take into account what the University already provides Your University can also provide a range of support – make contact with their Student Services department to learn more

3 How do I know if I am eligible?
Some of the conditions that may entitle you to extra support via DSAs and directly from your University include: ADHD • Anorexia • Anxiety • Aspergers • Autism • Bi-Polar • Cancer • Chronic Fatigue • Crohn’s Disease • Depression • Diabetes • Dyslexia • Dyspraxia • Eating Disorder • Epilepsy • Fibromyalgia • IBS • Migraines • Multiple Sclerosis • Scoliosis Spina Bifida • Specific Learning difficulty • Stroke • Tinnitus • Visual Impairment and many more

4 What could I be entitled to?
Training *recommendations are made following a DSA assessment Assistive software *Your University has a range of additional support services to help you succeed. Make contact with your intended place of study to find out more Laptop contribution Lecture notes/recording BSL interpreter Note taking support Specialist 1-1 support Travel expenses

5 Why Claim? Because you are entitled to support to help you succeed. When surveyed about claiming DSAs most students say that they wish they had asked for help sooner. 7 How do I make a claim for DSAs?
The claim process can be time consuming – apply as soon as possible! You can make an application anytime after you have applied to University. Don’t forget to contact your intended place of study to find out what inhouse support is available too. 8 Checklist to Success Check you’re eligible for support at abilitynet.org.uk/claimit Ensure you have the necessary evidence from your doctor or relevant practitioner Speak to your University to find out what support they can offer Fill out an application and send to your funding body at Once you receive your approval letter, go to to book your assessment After the assessment you will receive a report with recommendations that is sent to your funding body for approval Receive equipment and other support
