Histopathological phenotypes in the lung allograft. a, b) Vascular phenotypes, c, d) bronchiolar phenotypes, e, f) interstitial phenotypes. a) A2 cellular rejection, b) A2 plus immunohistochemistry for apoptotic (caspase 3) and proliferation (Ki67) markers, c) B-lymphocytic infiltrate, d) bronchiolitis obliterans organising pneumonia, e) obliterative bronchiolitis (OB), and f) OB with chronic vascular rejection/fibrosis. Other histopathological phenotypes not shown include: chronic, low grade pneumonitis; endothelialitis with/without complement staining; and fibrinoid organising pneumonia. In (b) the peri-vascular lymphocytic infiltrate is schematically shown to consist of a combination of CD4/8 T-effectors and CD4/FoxP3 T-regulatory cells. Tom Kotsimbos et al.
