Draw and write down the equations
of some lines that pass through
the point (2, 2).
Preamble
This relatively open-ended task will allow pupils to show their understanding of straight line graphs and their equations. It might be useful to set a time limit of, say, five minutes and then to collect in all offerings. Sketches could perhaps be drawn on a prepared grid using an appropriate projector. Answers can then be discussed with the whole class. During this process insist that pupils describe how they went about finding the equations of the straight lines.

Solution/Notes
There are an infinite number of possibilities, but the most obvious ones which should be produced are:
y = 2 x = 2
y = x y = 2x – 2
y = −x + 4
