2 Federal Legislation The Nonindigenous Aquatic Nuisance Prevention and Control Act of 1990 National Invasive Species Act of 1996 Established the National Aquatic Nuisance Species Task Force (ANSTF) Established and provided funding for the six Regional ANS Panels Establishment of State ANS Plans Outlined content and appropriated funding for grants to carry out the actions outlined in the plans.

5 Activities of the Regional Panels
Identify priorities for the region with respect to ANS; Make recommendations to the Task Force regarding programs to address ANS; Assist the Task Force in coordinating Federal ANS program activities in the respective regions;

6 Activities of the Regional Panels
Coordinate, where possible, ANS program activities in the respective regions that are not conducted pursuant to the Act; Provide advice to public and private individuals and entities concerning methods of controlling ANS; and Submit annually a report to the Task Force describing activities within the respective regions related to ANS prevention, research, and control.

7 Gulf and South Atlantic Regional Panel (GSARP)
Established in 1999 Membership: Ten Federal, Thirteen State, Eight NGO, Two Members of the Public and One International Provide for coordination of ANS control and management activities in the region. Help members develop a working relationship to facilitate communication and cooperation across the region.

11 U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Region 4 AIS Program - Small Grants Program
Over the last three years - 26 projects funded totaling $556K Salvinia, Hydrilla, Phragmites, Didymo, Asian Carp, Rusty Crayfish, Speckled Crayfish, Red-rimmed Melania, Lionfish, Apple Snail, Asian Clam, Invasive Parasite of American Eels Increased collaboration and communication between FWS, GSARP, and the academic community.
