3. I. Immigration The United States has had many immigrants.
In the 1920s Congress created the Quota System which severely limited immigrations from non-western European nations.

4. C. American companies often recruited Mexican laborers to work in Agriculture. -Many were deported during the Great Depression.

5. D)The Immigration Act of 1965 ended the Quota System making the nation a much more diverse place.

6. II. Undocumented Immigration.
There continues to be a demand for low pay workers, especially in agriculture, domestic service and food services.
Many business have been hiring undocumented workers because it is difficult to find Americans who will do these jobs for the low wages.

7. C) In the 1980s the government tightened the boarders in an attempt to keep out undocumented immigrants. D) It became harder for many people to cross the boarder so they moved their families to the US.

9. III. The Dreamers
A) Many children were brought here at a young age and have only ever know the US as their home. B) Because they are undocumented they cannot vote, get many jobs or have access to many government services. C) They can also be deported.

10. D. Deferred Action for childhood arrivals. (DACA)
President Obama advised the justice department to focus on people who have committed crimes for deportation.
He signed DACA to give “dreamers” temporary legal status and asked Congress to make it permanent.

11. E. Current Immigration Debates
Congress is still debating giving permanent status to the dreamers.
President Trump has said he will not give permanent status to the dreamers unless Congress funds a border wall and limits legal immigration.

12. IV. Asylum Seekers.
Currently many people are seeking asylum to escape gang violence in Latin America.
The justice department has said that it will not grant asylum to these people.
The justice department has developed a zero tolerance policy, meaning that they will prosecute anybody who crosses the border illegally.
The administration has recently been criticized for separating parents and children.
