collect, analyse and disseminate scientific veterinary information on animal disease control provide expertise/technical support and encourage international solidarity in animal disease control within its WTO/SPS mandate, safeguard world trade by publishing animal health standards improve national Veterinary Services provide a better guarantee of the safety of food of animal origin and to promote animal welfare through a science-based approach

17 Japan/OIE Special Trust Fund Project for HPAI Control at Source in Southeast Asia (in collaboration with the FAO components) Component I: Improvement of Regional and National HPAI control strategies Component II: HPAI information sharing to further strengthen the regional early warning systems Component III: Strengthen diagnostic capacity of regional collaborating laboratories and national reference /diagnostic laboratories for HPAI (training courses on advanced HPAI diagnosis and installment of the equipment) Component IV: Training for field veterinarians and para- professionals on HPAI strategic surveillance

18 Strengthening control system for Avian Influenza in Asia (April 2008 –March 2012) project in pipeline Improvement/capacity building of Veterinary Services Comprehensive surveillance to investigate the transmission route of HPAI viruses such as on: wild bird migratory routes; trade of wild birds; infected poultry/unprocessed poultry products; recycling of poultry feces with infectivity as manure or feed; use of carriers with poor hygienic standards Regular meeting for improvement of early reporting system for HPAI outbreaks and information sharing on the national control strategies
