The lymphatic system Includes vessels, nodes, and organs that collects fluids (LYMPH) lost by the circulatory system and returns the fluid back to the blood Lymph collects in lymphatic capillaries and travels, one-way, to larger lymph vessels Lymph is returned to the blood through ducts in the superior vena cava

Lymph nodes Located along all lymph vessels
Filter out bacteria and other microorganisms from the lymph

Lymph vessels Return lymph to blood Also aid in nutrient absorption
Lie next to cells of the intestine Absorb fats and fat-soluble vitamins from digestive tract and carry them to the blood

Thymus Located beneath the sternum
Produces lymphocytes called T cells used to fight disease

Spleen Cleanses blood by removing damaged blood cells
Also harbors phagocytes that engulf and destroy bacteria and microorganisms
