WALT: explore characters in detail, using evidence from the text to support our ideas. Let’s get started and read Chapter 1

3 WALT: explore characters in detail, using evidence from the text to support our ideas.
Activity 1 Now that we have read the opening to Friend or Foe, we are starting to get to know the two protagonists in the story and in particular, David. Briefly, with your partner, discuss what David is like. How do we know he is like this? What evidence is there in the text to prove this. Remember that in order to really understand a text, we have to get ‘underneath’ what the text is saying to us. As we read more complex books, the author sometimes just ‘hints’ at ideas and makes us work a little bit harder to get more information about characters! You have to be a detective!

4 WALT: explore characters in detail, using evidence from the text to support our ideas.
Activity 2 Now you are going to receive an Outline of a Body- this will represent David. You need to: Record characteristics of David (inside the outline). What is he like? This could be appearance, mannerisms, behaviours You can also quote directly from the text using quote marks and page references as well. Let’s find an example together… Next: ask questions to David as if he were in the room- place your ideas around the outside of the body outline
