Upcoming Events Miss Meagan’s Miss Brandi’s The Week of January 22 – 26, 2018 Vocabulary: Upcoming Events: quote – to repeat the exact words written in a text or said by another person context clues – hints found within a sentence that help define a unknown word or phrase inference – a conclusion created using evidence and reasoning theme – n. the underlying meaning or message of a literary work or story conclusion – the final paragraph in an essay; the ending or outcome main idea – the author’s central thought; the chief topic of a text expressed or implied in a word or phrase; the topic sentence of a paragraph simile – a figure of speech comparing two unlike objects, ideas, thoughts or feelings that is often introduced by “like” or “as” metaphor – a figure of speech comparing two unlike objects, ideas, thoughts or feelings without the use of “like” or “as” supporting details – information that helps to prove or describe the main idea items in a series – a list of three or more items that are separated by a comma Every Friday $1.00 Hat Day – The proceeds will go to a SES student battling Leukemia. Reminders Our Learning: Reading: We will be reviewing the following literary and informational standards: determining the theme of a text, drawing inferences, quoting a text accurately, and determining the main idea. Unit Test will be January 31st. Language Arts: We will be reviewing the different types of figurative language, using commas in a series, context clues, and the different parts of speech. Students will be taking their DLR quiz on Friday. Math: Students will be reviewing adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers. Unit 4 Test will be Thursday, January 25th. Science: Students will continue learning about chemical and physical change. DSR Quiz on Friday. Social Studies: Students will be reviewing Cattle Trails and will be learning about inventors at the Turn of the Century. Spelling: challenge, agent, journal, legend, ridge, plunge, luggage, lodge, margin, jumble, surge, jigsaw, knowledge, ranger, dodge, baggage, jolt, budge, damage, judgment
