3. Honor Society
Honor Society is one of the highest achievements a high school student can attain.
At Tonight’s Ceremony New Members will receive:
Honor Society Certificates of Membership
Honor Society Pins
Honor Stoles will be presented at a Senior Awards Ceremony in May.

4. Becoming Honor Society:
Three Major Obstacles:
1. Qualify – Maintain a 94% average over eight semesters.
2. Apply – Students that qualify over six semesters receive an application at the start of their Senior year and return it in December.
3. Selection – Applicants are selected by a majority vote of the Faculty Council.

5. Honor Society is different than the Honor Roll.
Honor Roll measures academic success only.
Honor Society examines a student’s performance in four areas:
The Four Pillars of Honor Society.
1. Scholarship
2. Leadership
3. Service
4. Character

7. 1. Scholarship Maintain a 94% average.
Enroll in more classes than the minimum to graduate!
Take challenging classes in Math, Science and Foreign Language.
Successfully complete classes that are Advanced Placement and qualifying Dual Credit.

8. 2. Leadership
Measured by involvement in all types of school activities: Academic, Athletic, Fine Arts and Clubs.
Multiple Activities during Multiple Seasons is encouraged!
Other factors:
Receiving Awards
Serving as an officer in Activities and Clubs
Representing Wahpeton High School at certain functions

9. Examples of Volunteer Work
3. Service
Only volunteer work that is unpaid and unrelated to school activities qualifies. Must provide an adult reference that is not a family member.
Examples of Volunteer Work
School – Peer Mentoring and Tutoring
Community – Humane Society, Food Pantry, Assisted Living Homes…etc.
Church – Youth Groups, Teaching Sunday School & Mission Trips

10. 4. Character
Points are awarded based upon the responses of staff and faculty on a character survey. The survey measures six components of a student’s character.
1. Trustworthiness
2. Respect
3. Responsibility
4. Fairness
5. Caring
6. Citizenship

11. Failure to do so could result in forfeiting membership!

One Final Requirement!
New members are expected to maintain the core values and characteristics that have helped them achieve this very high honor.
