Receive Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips! Psalm 141:3 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. Ephesians 4:29

Engage Nearly 43% of kids have been bullied online. ...
70% of students report seeing frequent bullying online. Over 80% of teens use a cell phone regularly, making it the most common medium for cyberbullying. 68% of teens agree that cyberbullying is a serious problem. Our words have the power to change the world or just change a life. We can use words to start a war or to solve a problem. We can use words to destroy a person’s sense of identity and self worth or we can use words to express our love for all humanity.

Engage Cyber Bullying: Create no hate
Some discussion ideas … What can we do as a school community to prevent cyberbullying and stay safe online? How can we use our words to change the world? Discussion techniques - Go back to the Bible passage ask “How does the theme link with the Bible passage?” Discuss the question in pairs for 30 seconds then invite a response from each pair. Use quick-fire answers e.g. throw a soft bean bag / toy to a student, when they answer they throw it back and you quickly throw to another student. Simplify the question - Invite quick one-word answers, write them on the board, then reflect on the answers – see connections. Activity suggestion … Write words of kindness and about how great someone is on a post-it notes and stick it to them – so that they are ‘clothed’ in words of power and goodness.

Respond [Reflect for a minute on the worship theme and our engagement …] Father, We ask for your protection over those who have experienced cyber-bullying. Please rescue them from emotional and physical danger, and from the fear associated with this trauma. We cry out to you — use us as your instruments of peace to nourish their souls, to bring encouragement, and to release them from anxiety and the insecurity that comes when we feel weak. Amen Prayer / reflection technique – Give a summary of the theme and any responses that students may have made, then invite everyone to be still (remind no books open etc – lessen distraction). To pray or reflect on today’s worship. Be quiet for one minute. Then say the prayer …
