Science and Social Studies 3G has been engaged in our first science unit on weather and climate. Students have been working to study the difference between weather and climate as well as working to understand the climate and weather of various places throughout the world. We are working to wrap up this unit with a study on extreme weather. Shortly, the class will be turning back to social studies. In this next unit, the class will be learning about the culture of the Lenape tribe. Students will read nonfiction texts about the roles of men and women in the tribe, shelters of the Lenape people and clothing of the Lenape. The whole third grade will be celebrating the Lenape with a special dance performance. Details to follow. Writing - The class has started their unit on personal essays. To begin this unit, students brainstormed topics they felt they were “experts” in. From there, students have selected a topic and formed an opinion about it. Students will work to develop reasons to support their opinion and learn how to write a five paragraph essay supporting their thoughts. Math - Students are wrapping up the unit on multiplication. The class has learned a variety of methods to find the product of a multiplication problem. Ask your child to draw an array, a numberline, an area model or skip count. Next, we will move into division.
