Do Now: As the Battle of Stalingrad raged in 1943, Stalin urged the British and Americans to invade France. Why do you think Stalin wanted the Allies to invade France?

4 D-Day (turning point) June 6th 1944
Marked beginning of the invasion of Nazi France. Approximately 156,000 Allied troops invaded France. Hitler forced to fight a two-front war. Allies victorious and force Germans to retreat eastward.

5 By 1944, the Allies liberated France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands.
