Health and Social Care (Single Award and Double Award) Life and Health Sciences (Double Award) Professional Business Services Two thirds of the marks for Health and Social Care are awarded through portfolio units – coursework. One third of the marks are awarded through examined units – tests. 50% of the marks for Life and Health Sciences are awarded through portfolio units. Professional Business Services – 40% Portfolio unit. Applied Subjects could be worth either: One A-Level = Single Award or Two A-Levels = Double Award

11 Factors to consider when choosing subjects:
1. Choose subjects you are good at and enjoy. 2. Consider employment prospects. 3. Certain university courses will look for specific A-levels (and GCSE subjects and grades). 4. Taking certain 'facilitating' subjects at A-level will open up more university course options (more details later) 5. Many university courses have no specific subject requirement.

45 What is the Effect? In summer 2019, when the new letter grades are awarded, the A* will be adjusted to reflect the Grade 9. This will mean that there will be proportionally fewer A* grades from 2019. The introduction of the Grade C* will also reduce the number of B grades. The Grade B will align with the Grade 6 in the numeric scale. Fewer A* and fewer B grades will make these grades more meaningful and allows for greater differentiation among higher achieving students. I have included a more detailed document in your folder to give you the CCEA take on how this will work out in Summer 2019

You will receive GCSE results on Thursday 22nd August 2019. Complete and return the application form 12 noon on Friday 23rd August at the latest to inform us that you wish to continue into year 13.
