Special conditions in the BS marine region
Catchment area of 2,000,000 km2 is about six times larger than the BS surface area Bordered by six coastal states: Ukraine to the north, the Russian Federation to the north-east, Georgia to the east, Turkey to the south, and Bulgaria and Romania to the west Only two countries are currently implementing the MSFD Currently prevailing socio-economic framework conditions in the region are marked by considerable differences in historic starting positions as well as due to different political and economic courses Black Sea convention is the regional intergovernmental actor for the protection of the Black Sea 07/04/19 © Fresh Thoughts Consulting

Next steps – Going beyond the project
Maintain the platform of information exchange between RO and BG To present the outcomes of the project within the Advisory Groups of the Black Sea Commission Implementation of regular full monitoring following revised monitoring programs, update of national reports on Art. 8, 9 and 10 in line with revised COM Dec and Annex III in 2018; Work on finding more common indicators for the rest of criteria, common assessments; Implement national PoM and transboundary measures between BG&RO as part of national PoM. 07/04/19 © Fresh Thoughts Consulting
