1 Who are you calling IDIOM?
Drawing Project Inspiration

2 Learner Outcomes Gr. 7 Strong, definite use of line suggests energy and clarity of images. Symbolic meanings are expressed in different ways by different cultural groups. Visual symbols are used for identification and status by people in groups. External influences may have modified the imagery of a cultural group over time. Identifying problems associated with image making is part of learning to analyze and criticize one’s own art works.

3 Learner Outcomes Gr. 8 Shapes may be organic or geometric.
The size of depicted figures or objects locates those objects in relationship to the ground or picture plane. Value or colour can emphasize negative space over positive space. Techniques and media that students have used to make their images can be identified and described.

4 What is an idiom According to Wikipedia
“Idiom is an expression, word, or phrase that has a figurative meaning that is comprehended in regard to a common use of that expression that is separate from the literal meaning or definition of the words of which it is made.” AKA – A figure of speech.

5 So now what? Our purpose for this project is to use an idiom as inspiration for a drawing. We will need to represent the idiom in one of TWO ways: Figuratively Literally

6 What’s does that mean? For Goodness sakes… I thought this was going to be easy. Figuratively is more imaginative, it's used when you mean something didn't really happen. It's metaphorical. Literally describes something that actually happened. If you say that a guitar solo literally blew your head off, your head should not be attached to your body.

7 Idiomatic Examples A Big Mouth» Refers to a gossip monger. » Someone who cannot keep a secret. Talking To A Brick Wall» Talking to someone who does not pay heed to what is being said. » Someone who ignores you at face value.

8 Visual examples of the an Idiom
