CAD & cam To learn about and understand the use of CAD/CAM for designing and manufacturing purposes. To understand how CAD/CAM can be used in fabric production, embroidery and garment manufacture.
2
CAD OR CAM? Process of automatically spreading out fabric on to cutting tables in layers. Automatic sewing machines used to make button holes and attach pockets. Drafting out a pattern and then using data to map out different sizes. An embroidery machine used to stitch on a logo with different colours. A design sent through a digital printer to print the design straight on to fabric. Exploring a design by changing it in to different colour-ways. Using a digital pressing machine to improve the appearance of a garment
3
Computer aided design is??
CAD means… These are systems for creating, modifying and communicating ideas for a product. It includes the computer aided design of the pattern pieces and lay plan for a product too.
4
COMPUTER AIDED MANUFACTURE IS?
CAM means… Machines and processes that are controlled and programmed by computers to do a whole range of production processes. CAD and CAM systems are often closely linked.
5
CAD/CAM VIDEO. Come up with 3 questions about the video or CAD/CAM in general. Write these down on a slip of paper. You should know the answers to your questions. Put your name at the top of your questions. Pick a set of questions at random to answer. CHALLENGE: if you finish early. List the ways that CAD & CAM could be used to design and manufacture a kimono.
