2 General links: Watch Suffragetts clip up to HWK links for research: Books recommended:

3 Timings: 3.50-4.35 (kids' views on gender)
(Head's view on gender) (difference in brains) & (job stereotypes) (gendered Tshirts) (gendered toys) (the results)

4 LO: To challenge views on gender
Starter: what do you think are similarities & differences between males & females? Why/how? Can you give examples? Discuss in pairs & be ready for me to ask random groups

5 Give synonyms (other words for) & examples of the following:
Happy Sad Angry Love Boys Girls Examples of amazing people

6 Task: Read the information about these women who changed the world
As a pair, pick one and in you OWN words (not reading from the sheet), explain the following: What they did What it makes you think/feel How/why what they did was important How does what they did change our views of women (either now or back then)

7 Hwk: Research a woman who changed the world and create an informative text on her, e.g. a poster, brochure, graphic novel, etc. Don't forget sports, politics, maths & science, women from other countries, etc. It doesn't have to be from a long time ago! Who do you admire? I’ll add some links to SMILE, for help

8 What do you agree or disagree with & why/how?
Things to consider: What's said? What do you agree or disagree with & why/how? Can you provide examples to support your views? What do you think might happen if we don't challenge gender assumptions? Can you think of any gender stereotypes you've been guilty of? E.g. I sometimes call girls 'my love' which I'm trying to stop. CHALLENGE: what can we do to change gender assumptions? How could it affect society? Have you seen this in books, on TV or the news? Why do you think the students thought this way? What would you say to them, if you could? What can teachers do? What can you do? I think… because… for example… But what if… I see what you mean but what about… I remember when… When… said… Have you thought of… When… I thought/felt...

9 Success criteria: HADAFOREST Explain how/why Provide examples & reasons Provide thoughts as well as feelings Ask a question & then answer it Strong modals & verbs Encourage & compliment your audience Have a sense of immediacy/make it seem important Make us laugh CHALLENGE: Use similes, metaphors, imagery Shock us Build in persuasion Provide solutions
