Chemiluminescence in nasal lavage fluid (NALF) samples. Zymosan binds activated CR3 receptors on a polymorphonuclear neutrophil (PMN), resulting in a respiratory burst releasing reactive oxygen species. Oxygen radicals then combine with luminol, causing light release, which is measured with a chemiluminometer.
