3 The Future of IL: How Do We Get There?
Tim Harrington, Jeremy Morris, and Billy Altom

4 Today’s Discussion Will Cover:
SILC Perspective on building the next generation. CIL Perspective on creating the path for the next leaders. APRIL’s perspective from a national view of building the opportunities for up and comers.

5 Guiding Discussion Questions to Consider for Today’s Conversation:
What are we doing about upward mobility for staff? How are we moving staff around so they can understand the different positions? What are we doing to create opportunities for professional development? What are our strategies going to be for the IL Movement? Think back to your start, whose shoulders did you stand on or who helped you get your start?

6 The Why: Succession Planning and IL
The historic leaders of the movement are leaving the room. Our heroes are moving on. If we aren’t planning and preparing the next generation of leaders….what will happen? So where do we go from here?

7 Succession Planning Succession planning is for everyone!
How do we incorporate more voices in our organizations and the movement? Membership on our councils More involvement in our activities Making sure our voices don’t get stagnant As young people creating your own space and finding your champions

8 CIL Up and Comers How do we identify those folks who have leadership potential in the future? Its our responsibility to make sure the next generation is ready to step up We have to be the believers and create the space and opportunities to build those skills for leadership Examples of ways we can build a path to success What are our challenges?

9 How we as a national movement can support young leaders
Creating opportunities within IL: Youth Leadership Committee, Careers in IL committee, hiring and mentoring young people with potential Supporting young advocates not working in IL
