Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (icann.org) Responsible for managing the Internet’s domain name system and the allocation of IP addresses World Wide Web Consortium (w3.org) Group of organizations that set standards and develop protocols for the Web Ashley Juniewicz

How do computers connect to the internet?
Internet similar to US highway system Smaller paths lead to bigger, faster ones Main pathways of Internet are called the Internet Backbone Internet backbone is a collection of large national and international networks AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint provide backbone connectivity Ashley Juniewicz

IP address vs. domain name
An IP address is a set of numbers specific to your computer A domain name is something easier to remember, such as google.com Ashley Juniewicz

Why have an IP address? IP addresses serve the same purpose as home addresses. Any device that can send and receive information to/from the internet needs an address so accurate communication can take place. Ashley Juniewicz
