Supplementary Figure 1 Definitions of MC and EUS. (A) A regular branched pit pattern is observed on MC, diagnosed as type IV pit pattern, which suggests intramucosal to slight submucosal cancer (M-SMS). (B) A slightly irregular branched pit is observed on MC, diagnosed as type VI-L pit pattern, which suggests M-SMS. (C) A severely irregular branched pit with an unclear outline is observed on MC, diagnosed as type VI-H pit pattern, which suggests deep submucosal cancer (SMD). (D) A nonstructural area is observed in the tumor, diagnosed as type VN pit pattern, which suggests SMD. (E) A hypoechoic area confined to the first and second layers is detected on EUS (red arrows), which was defined as M-SMS. (F) The hypoechoic area is confined to the first and second layers, but the upper side of the third layer appears to be irregular because of the hypoechoic area (red arrows), which was defined as M-SMS. (G) The hypoechoic area clearly invades into the third layer on EUS (red arrows), which was defined as SMD. (H) The hypoechoic area has spread extensively to the third layer, and the hyperechoic third layer has been replaced by a hypoechoic mass on EUS (red arrows), which was defined as SMD.
