The Importance of Spiritual Health
A study in the book of James
2
James 4:11 Don’t speak evil against each other, dear brothers and sisters. If you criticize and judge each other, then you are criticizing and judging God’s law. But your job is to obey the law, not to judge whether it applies to you.
3
2 Things that we are not supposed to do
Criticize others Judge others Do we think that we are better than other people? What right or authority do we have to judge others?
4
We are reminded of what our job is
5
James 4:12 God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor?
6
3 Errors of Judgment Things don’t apply to us the way they do everyone else I’m better than them so I can condemn what they are doing I don’t have to forgive those who’ve done wrong
7
Luke 6:37 “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you will be forgiven.
8
What do we need to understand?
We are not perfect How dangerous it is to judge others
9
Romans 2:1-6 You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things. 2 And we know that God, in his justice, will punish anyone who does such things. 3 Since
10
Romans 2:1-6 you judge others for doing these things, why do you think you can avoid God’s judgment when you do the same things? 4 Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin? 5 But because you are
11
Romans 2:1-6 stubborn and refuse to turn from your sin, you are storing up terrible punishment for yourself. For a day of anger is coming, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed. 6 He will judge everyone according to what they have done.
