Stravinsky originated from a musical family, although his training wasnt of much reflecting his family's desire that he follow studies in law. a student at the university in St. Petersburg, he met a man by the name of Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov and studied with the much more experienced composer. His music greatly caught the attention of Serge Diaghilev, the director of the Ballets Russes in Paris. Stravinsky was commissioned to write a ballet for the theater called Firebird. This was almost immediately followed by Petrushka and The Rite of Spring.
