Figure 1 Intrafollicular levels of pregnancy-associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A) in relation to ovarian hormones: (A) antimüllerian hormone (AMH) vs. PAPP-A, (B) E2 vs. PAPP-A, (C) P vs. PAPP-A, (D) T vs. PAPP-A, (E) A vs. PAPP-A, and (F) AMH vs. E2. White triangles: small human antral follicles; gray squares: follicles collected before the LH surge; black diamonds: follicles collected after the LH surge from women stimulated with recombinant FSH. Figure 2 The proteolytic activity of pregnancy-associated plasma protein A (PAPP-A) toward insulin-like growth factor–binding protein 4 (IGFBP-4) in follicular fluid (FF) in the presence or absence of 1 μmol/L of an inhibitory monoclonal antibody specific for PAPP-A (mAb 1/41) or a control IgG. As control samples, IGFBP-4 was incubated with or without (Mock) 35 pmol/L recombinant PAPP-A (rPAPP-A). Cleavage reactions were stopped after 4 hours. Figure 3 Immunoexpression of PAPP-A, AMH, and CYP19 aromatase. Small antral follicles (5–6 mm in diameter): A, D, G, and J; large antral follicles (8–9 mm in diameter): B, b, E, e, H, h, K, k; and preovulatory human antral follicles: C, F, I, and L. GC = granulosa cells; TC = theca cells; other abbreviations as in Figure 1. Scale bars: 50 μm (A, B, D, E, G, H, J, and K) or 20 μm (b, C, e, F, h, I, k, and L).
