1 UCLA High Energy & Astro-Particle (HEAP) Seminar
“Gamma Ray Polarimetry of GRB160530A with the Balloon Borne Compton Spectrometer and Imager” Presented by Alex Lowell, UC Berkeley The Compton Spectrometer and Imager is a next generation Compton telescope designed for imaging, spectroscopy, and polarimetry of astrophysical sources in the 200 keV to 5 MeV band. In 2016, COSI successfully completed a 46 day flight on NASA's new super-pressure balloon platform. Analysis efforts so far have resulted in detections of various sources such as the Crab Nebula, Cyg-X1, Cen-A, 511 keV e+e- annihilation from the galactic center, and the bright long-duration gamma-ray burst GRB160530A. I will focus on the polarization performance of COSI with an emphasis on our analysis and results for GRB160530A. Location: Knudsen 4-134 Date: Wednesday April 19th, 2017 Time: 12:00pm Pizza at 11:45am
