3 Vision of Family Engagement
Our vision of Family Engagement at Knik Elementary is a quality education for every child. We want to establish partnerships with families and with the community. Everyone gains if school and home work together to promote high achievement by our children. Neither home nor school can do the job alone. Families play an extremely important role as children’s teachers. Families support for their children and for the school is critical to their children’s success every step along the way. 4 Title 1 is a federally funded program to assist our school in providing successful education for all students. Knik Elementary recognizes that some students may need the extra assistance available through the Title 1 program to reach the state’s high academic standards and will design, with the input of its families and community, a well defined educational program for all its students. . 5 Title 1 is embedded in every part of our school
We offer: Family Engagement activities throughout the year Instruction intervention for struggling students Progress monitoring of struggling students Professional development of staff members Family Engagement events during morning and evening hours What Title 1 provides for Students

6 Engagement in the Title 1 Plan Development
All Families are encouraged to get involved, in an ongoing and timely way, in the planning, review, improvement and development of the Title 1 School Plan. Opportunities include: Title 1 table at Parent-Teacher Conferences Title 1 table at Family Engagement events Family Questionnaires and School Event Family Surveys s from the school to families of students Participation in the Home/School Compact *Created by a committee consisting of school staff members and families of students. These compacts are distributed and discussed with each family at Family teacher conferences and is available online. Families may submit any comments on the plan when the school makes the plan available to the community. This may be done through Questionnaires from Family Engagement Activities or s, phone calls or conferences with: The Principal The Instructional Coach The Classroom teacher Engagement in the Title 1 Plan Development

7 Development of the Title 1 Policy
Knik Elementary staff and Families will revise the Knik Family Engagement Policy and distribute it to families. Knik’s Title 1 plan is developed as a result of family and community input collected during the annual title meeting to which all families are invited and encouraged to attend, PTO Meetings, school-wide, and quarterly Title 1 (STEPP) team meetings We pledge to offer a flexible number of meetings to obtain Family Engagement, meetings in the morning or evening. Flexibility has been offered in a number of ways: Title 1 Family Engagement information is available at every school function;. Our annual Title 1 meeting will be held at two different times of the day PTO Meetings The Knik Elementary Title 1 plan will be made available to the public: Upon request at the front desk at school Online through a link on our school’s website Development of the Title 1 Policy

8 Information Distribution to Families
Knik Elementary will provide families timely information about the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet. Curriculum information is available and presented in a number of ways including but not limited to:  *Curriculum is discussed at Family Conferences *A link to our curriculum research is on our school website and district website Assessment information is discussed at Parent-Teacher Conferences, IEP and RTI meetings and anytime families and teachers need to look for academic progress. During our Parent-Teacher Conferences, we will cover the following information:  *Current AIMSweb and MAP data *Grade level proficiency levels in relationship to current performance and necessary interventions. Information Distribution to Families

9 Sharing Responsibility for Student Academic Achievement
The staff of Knik Elementary, family, and students shall work together to share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement by: Conducting Family/teacher conferences, annually (at a minimum), Formal conferences are held twice a year Conferences are also held on an as needed basis for any child at the request of the Family or teacher If in person conferences are not possible phone conferences will be held.     Providing frequent reports to family on their children’s progress; and Phone calls are made about progress or concerns MAP reports are sent home 3 times per year Communication notes between the family and teacher Providing families with reasonable access to staff, opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class and observation of classroom activities. Staff members are available by phone or Classroom letters are sent home to families to ask for assistance for special occasions and field trips. Families are encouraged to volunteer and visit classrooms at any time during the school day Providing families with regular meetings to make suggestions and participate in decisions relating to the education of their children. Requests from families for meetings are honored by our staff RTI and IEP meetings Fall and spring Family conferences Open invitation to participate on Title 1 team Sharing Responsibility for Student Academic Achievement

10 Educational Provisions
To ensure positive and effective engagement of families and to support a partnership among the school, families, and the community to improve student academic achievement, Knik Elementary commits to the following: We shall provide assistance to the families of children served by the school or local educational agency, as appropriate, in understanding such topics as the State’s academic content standards and State student academic achievement standards, State and local academic assessments, the requirements of this part, and how to monitor a child’s progress and work with educators to improve the achievement of their children;   *Standards, current assessments, and educational plans for students are discussed at Family conferences. MAP reports are sent home three times per year *PEAKS results are sent home with explanations of the results in the spring *Progress monitoring graphs are sent home regularly *Interpreters are made available if needed. We shall provide materials and training to help family to work with their children to improve their children’s achievement, such as literacy, math, and technology training, as appropriate, to foster family engagement; School information is provided to families in their native language upon request and assistance from school staff members is provided to all families to ensure learning opportunities are available to students who face any additional challenges that might impede success in the classroom. 11 Families are encouraged to participate in all aspects of their child’s educational experience at Knik Elementary. Some ways to become more involved are: *Volunteer in your child’s classroom or the school *Participate in Family Engagement events with your child Participation in your child’s educational experience is not limited to time spent at school. Here are other ways you can participate: *Provide homework time and assistance if needed *Ensure proper rest and nourishment for growing brains *Promote regular attendance to school *Communicate with your child’s teacher *Discuss what happened in your child’s day each evening Family Engagement

Dates and times for the annual Title 1 Meeting, Family Engagement events and additional Knik Elementary School happenings will be announced in the following ways: Posters at the office and around the school School newsletter announcement Connect Ed message to families Schedule of Family Engagement Events
